Re-Evaluating Triage in NYC

It's just about everyone's aim to avoid the emergency room, but the psychiatric ER at the Kings County hospital in Brooklyn provides quite the cautionary tale.

Uncharacteristically, I'm at a loss for words.

I am not for a lost of words. I got 2.

No Insurance.

Might as well stay home and die in your own bed.

That about says it all. Except that she was also at the psychiatric ER, which means she was seen as even more subhuman than a poor person with no insurance.

Also, I'm not convinced she had a bed to die in.

We actually have no government. This country is run by oil & insurance companies. This happens all the time. The only difference is that this time it's on video.

You think there will be an outcry of change because some nameless crazy person died alone without help in a hospital waiting room, and it was caught on video.

Nope. It'll be business as usual down in Washington.

No, I don't think there will be an outcry of change...and THAT , my friend, is the problem.

The situation will probably be treated like Esmin Green's body. Ignored, prodded by a toe of some law-maker to see if there's a reaction, ignored some more; some paperwork will be shuffled, some people might be fired for appearances sake and then the whole deal will be filed away.

Business as usual, indeed.
