Like I Needed Another Reason to Hate Oklahoma...

I've never been a big fan of my state's retarded neighbors to the South. Oklahoma has really never represented much more to me than a bunch of Republican, redneck country music singers and assholes. When someone from KANSAS looks at you as a complete redneck, that says a lot. Believe me.

Well, they've gone ahead and given me yet another reason to view that state as the buttcrack of the U.S. A new law, which was initially vetoed by the Governor, but over-ridden and passed, requires women who intend on having an abortion to get an ultrasound.

I'm not interested in getting into a debate about whether or not abortions should be legal. I've got my opinion on it, and my opinion is that it's none of my fucking business. It's none of yours either. If a woman or a couple want to get an abortion, that's their call. So we're not going to get into that here, and if we do, I'll most likely disregard your comment.

What I want to discuss is the state government putting itself in the middle of a doctor-patient relationship. As the article says, a law was already in place that made it mandatory for a physician to make information available to the person interested in having the abortion about ultrasounds and fetal development. That seems intrusive enough, though well-intentioned. But to actually force them to have an invasive procedure that they're not interested in seems a little bit out of bounds for the government.

To impose morals from a state government level seems to go against so many fundamentals of being an American that I'm sure I don't need to get into. We all know what it should mean to live in this free nation. We all know what it's turning out to be. They can tap your phone line for no reason if they want, and now they can invade your vagina if they want (not mine, I don't have one).

And how about the repercussions of not having the ultrasound?

In a further reversal of standard medical practice, this bill defines failure to perform this unnecessary medical procedure as "unprofessional conduct" and suggests that the state medical board may remove the physician’s license. Failure to perform the ultrasound also leads to fines beginning at $10,000 and increasing to more than $100,000. By comparison, the highest fine for negligent homicide or driving under the influence in Oklahoma is $1,000.
You have GOT to be shitting me.

Come on, Oklahoma. Even Florida nixed the forced ultrasound bill.
