Not Just For Models Anymore

Sing it, sister. Tatiana from Jezebel comments on this essay from a model's perspective, but believe me when I tell you you don't have to be professionally hot to understand what the hell these women are talking about.

I should just file this under: One of the many reasons I want to be reincarnated as a cactus in my next life.

One of the many reasons I get up in the morning, grab my penis and say "Thank you god"

Seriously though these kind of things, and lifetime channel paint men as sexual predators, and jerks. I don't think I like that.

No wonder guys are afraid to approach women, you guys think we're all non-rapists.

"We all" think nothing of the sort, Riv. But it is a reality that there are gray areas when it comes to bad sexual experiences, and it is a reality that no matter how prepared "we" might be or educated on protecting ourselves or avoiding danger, or what have you, the abuse of sexual power happens all the time. And sometimes it just takes you by surprise and "we" just don't know what to do about it.

I imagine men are afraid to approach women because they're afraid to get shot down or don't feel like dealing with the song and dance associated with courting. I sincerely doubt it's because men think we think they're rapists, non- or otherwise.

Let me also say that Lifetime movies are entertainment. These are essays written by women about real experiences.

Let me ALSO say that for every stupid bitch who cries rape when there was none, there is at LEAST one more who keeps her mouth shut about what happened to her because she feels responsible for what happened to her, ashamed about what happened to her or feels like no one would really take her seriously.

I hear what you're saying, River, I do. It's easy for a guy who isn't a craven, power-hungry asshole to feel maligned just because other dudes are doing sexual misdeeds. But I posted those articles because it's nice to see women sharing their experiences in a public forum, because there are more women than you can imagine who keep their secrets and feel ashamed because of men who felt entitled to do what they wanted when they wanted without considering the repercussions. Mostly because there really aren't terrible consequences to rape, non- and otherwise.

Lifetime television aside, most men do a pretty good job themselves of showing what kind of jerks they really are.

Anyone who knows me knows I am NOT a man-hater in the slightest. I love dudes, and I think asshole potential is beyond gender. But these articles highlight a social reality, and since my male readers are all good guys who would NEVER fuck with a female thusly, I thought it would be interesting for you all to see what women sometimes experience.
